Attendance Awareness Month

Posted Date: 9/02/25 (3:25 PM)

With August behind us, it's time to lean in to September! Our teachers and students are diving in to the curriculum, our fall sports are in full swing, cooler weather is on the way (hopefully). September also means it is time to talk about School Attendance! In the state of Alabama, September is recognized as "Attendance Awareness Month". Why? Because attendance matters!
Last year, we launched the "12 Days or Less" Campaign to bring awareness to Chronic Absenteeism/ how much school your student is missing. This year, we're sticking with the same campaign to hopefully lower our Chronic Absenteeism numbers as a district even more. We know things come up, we know kids get sick, but those absences add up fast! When they're able, we want your children at school.

How can you help?
-Take a look at the attached document. It is a very simple summary of our LCS Attendance Policy.
-You can also help us fight Chronic Absenteeism by keeping up with how many days your child has missed. We are aiming to keep those absences at 12 Days or Less for the entire year. If you still have your fridge magnet from last year, wipe it off and use it again! You can also download and print a tracker from the attached document.
